Devotional Classics | Ep. 19 “The Release Of The Spirit 02”

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

Originally a series of messages delivered at Customs Lane, Foochow, South China in 1948, these were translated and published by Sure Foundation Publishers in 1965. Brother Nee’s writings are an amazing call to fellow Christians. This work is only small in size, but not stature as “the author strongly recommends to all the servants of Christ that they learn a most fundamental lesson in their Christian experience; namely, the breaking of the outward man for the release of the inward spirit.”

Devotional Classics | Ep. 17 “The Life of David Brainerd Part 02”

Monday, September 18th, 2006

Though he was orphaned at age fourteen, repeatedly struck with debilitating illnesses, and unfairly expelled from college, Brainerd allowed nothing to deter him from serving God wholeheartedly. He traveled thousands of miles by horseback across treacherous terrain to preach the gospel to remote Indians. His calling required a rugged man—he even slept outside in the cold without cover—yet he constantly displayed a gentle and meek love for people entirely different from himself. Their benefit ultimately brought about his early death at the age of twenty-nine. Like an invigorating shower, the listener will be rejuvenated by Brainerd’s life-giving devotional insights, refreshing clarity of purpose, and heartwarming preaching. This book offers not only a captivating story, but an uplifting buoy for those who are weary, distant, or discouraged.

Dutch Reformed Pastor Andrew Murray probes Scripture and the life of Christ in order to teach us how to pray effectually. He asks us to enroll in a new kind of academy. “Jesus has opened a school, in which He trains His redeemed ones, who specially desire it, to have power in prayer. Shall we not enter it with the petition, Lord! it is just this we need to be taught! O teach us to pray.” With the Redeemer as our headmaster, Murray gently instructs us on how to experience a thriving relationship with Jesus Christ through the means of prayer.

Devotional Classics | Ep. 13 “Imitation Of Christ 02”

Monday, July 31st, 2006

Thomas À Kempis’ collection of meditative writings from the Brethren of the Common Life is the most widely read book in the world after the Bible. The reflective devotions have been a heartening friend to great men such as Thomas More, St. Ignatius Loyola, Thomas Merton, Pope John Paul I, and John Wesley. Learning to live like Jesus is the central task that À Kempis explores in this classic devotional. “The religious who concerns himself intently and devoutly with our Lord’s most holy life and passion will find there an abundance of all things useful and necessary for him. He need not seek for anything better than Jesus.” This book provides comfort and counsel to every person who seeks to live a more connected and whole life.
